In Memoriam

Don F. Bruno

On Tuesday August 5, 1997, promptly at quitting time Don (known to his wife Kay as Sweetie, to his kids Heather and Justin as Day and Dad, and to a very select few as Baka) Bruno compiled and linked the last lines of code that were his life and uploaded them to God's web page.  A last job done and as always, a job well done.  Sadly but oh so typical of Don he finished his life's project far ahead of schedule.

Don loved his programmer's chair large, his computers fast, and his family close.   He loved the "impossible" problems so that he might apply his simple solutions.  His algorithms were always elegant, his code air tight, his programs right on target.  To bugs in a PC program he was the embodiment of PC "Raid."  To his family he was husband, father, Baka, and always there.

A man who after replacing an Aerosmith CD with a Mozart collection, would queue up Garth Brooks for dessert, Don loved and coded to music.  A PC was Don's instrument and on his PC he would play his code.  A man of intense concentration when working, he would gladly interrupt his thoughts to bandy weighty conversation with his baby granddaughter.  She being so exited about how her new earrings that were just like her Baka's, but she had two of them!  Don intensely loved his work, but above all he treasured his family.

Don's life is a most excellent example of service to family, to friends, to business, and to community.  He will be sorely missed by all of us who have been privileged to have known him.

Don Bruno was 50 years old and a resident of Reche Canyon for the last 18 years.   He is survived by his wife Kay, son Justin, daughter Heather Waldon of Seattle, mother Alma Talley of Cherry Valley, brothers Rolin Bruno of Springfield, MO., Roger Bruno of Portland, OR., David Bruno of Oceanside, and sister Lucille Roylo of Lake Tahoe.  He leaves two grandchildren.

Don worked at Inland Cash Register for 33 years and owned the business with his wife Kay for the last 23 years.  He served as president of Reche Canyon Mutual Water Company for the last 8 years.

A Simple Irony - Don's Story in his own words.
